The Jalsa Salana

The Jalsa Salana is a three-day annual convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Germany. With its more than 40,000 attendees it is the largest convention of Muslims in Europe that takes place on a regular basis. The History of the Jalsa Salana can be traced back to 1891 as the founder of the reform movement, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani (as), proclaimed the first Jalsa Salana in Qadian (India). At the time 75 members attended it. Since then the Jalsa has been solidly established in many countries of the world. As an example in 1983 at Jalsa Salana Pakistan more than 200,000 guests participated.

Purpose of the Jalsa Salana

"The major aim of the gathering is that the sincere members of the Jama’at should be able to derive religious benefits and at the same time they should acquire more knowledge and advance in their God realisation. One advantage is that meeting their friends will broaden their circle of brotherhood and it will strengthen the mutual ties."
Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani (as), Source: Ishtihar 07.12.1982, Majmoo‘ah Ishtiharat Band I., page 340

The Jalsa Salana in Germany

The first Jalsa Salana proceeded at the premises of the Fazl-e-Umar Mosque in Hamburg. After the relocation of the Headquarters to Frankfurt am Main the Jalsa was also transferred to the Nuur- Mosque in Frankfurt am Main.
Due to the growing numbers of members the Community acquired a larger property (Nasir Bagh) in Groß-Gerau and held its Jalsa Salana from 1985 at this premises.
Even this place became too small, hence from 1995 on the Jalsa Salana took place at Maimarktgelände in Mannheim. The increasing organizational and logistic requirements necessitated that the Maimarktgelände as a venue had to be given up. Since 2011 the Jalsa Salana Germany therefore is held at the Messegelände in Karlsruhe. It is attended by more than 40,000 memebers and friends of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
